Credit Union ONE celebrates Pulaski Days

Ferndale, Michigan - As part of the heritage of their city, the Grand Rapids branch of Credit Union ONE recently participated in the 2013 Pulaski Days Parade.

Pulaski Days has been celebrated in Grand Rapids for over forty years and this year according to event coordinators they had record attendance for the festival.

Credit union staff volunteered their time and constructed a float for the parade.  The Credit Union ONE float had a giant ATM spitting out money, while dancing debit cards ran alongside the float and handed out candy and goodie bags to onlookers.

“Credit Union ONE enjoys participating in annual community events like the Pulaski Days Parade,” said Sharon Blower, Credit Union ONE Grand Rapids Branch Manager.  “Our staff really gets into putting together the float, and our members love seeing their credit union in the parade.  Our thanks go out to one of our members, Summit Landscape for providing the truck, trailer and driver for our float; we couldn’t have done it without them.”

Ferndale, Michigan – Earlier this month, Credit Union ONE and its’ Grand Rapids employees supported the T.O.Y (Think Outside Yourself) Radiothon held by the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation in Grand Rapids.

The Annual Radiothon took place December 12^th -14^th and was broadcast live by STAR 105.7 Radio from the lobby of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.  Funds pledged during the event are used to provide services and programs at the Children’s Hospital.

In addition to their sponsorship, Credit Union ONE employees had the opportunity to take phone pledges during the radiothon.

“We were honored to be a part of the T.O.Y Radiothon this year,” said Sharon Blower, Grand Rapids Credit Union ONE Branch Manager.  “Knowing that we are helping children and families that are going through a difficult time in their lives is so worthwhile.  It’s all part of being a community and coming together to help one another.”

Credit Union ONE provides shredding services to Grand Rapids community

Ferndale, Michigan – Approximately 50 people turned out at the Grand Rapids Credit Union ONE Branch on Saturday, September 22nd to shred more than 3,000 pounds of confidential personal and business documents, protecting themselves from identity theft and fraud.

Important information, such as social security numbers, addresses, account information, financial records or personal data, can be stolen and used to open lines of credit, use existing credit cards or to falsify personal information. Shredding documents that contain private information can protect individuals and businesses from fraudulent use of confidential data.

According to Sharon Blower, Credit Union ONE Grand Rapids Branch Manager, "Our members were very appreciative of the opportunity to rid themselves of accumulating paperwork and Credit Union ONE was pleased to be able to offer this service to the Community."

“Every year several million people are victims of identity theft. The shredding event was created to raise awareness about the risks of identity theft and fraud, and to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of unneeded paperwork," said John Kozich, Executive Director of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE.

Kozich coordinated the three hour event, working closely with Rapid Shred, the industry-leading company that donated their time and equipment to provide secure onsite shredding services. This event is just one of several that Credit Union ONE has provided to their local communities during the year.

After the event, the shredded paper waste was taken away for recycling into paper towel.

Ferndale, Michigan – Have you ever gotten more than you asked for at an ATM? Well, if you visited the Credit Union ONE Grand Rapids branch in July and used their ATM that might have happened to you.

This past month, those using the machine located at 1609 Walker NW in Grand Rapids may randomly have received a $50 bill instead of a $20 bill in their transaction. Approximately $2,000 was given out to lucky recipients.

The promotion which ran from July 10th through July 31st was designed to create awareness of the ATM and branch location, support the current branch efforts, and to show member appreciation.

And speaking of appreciation, according to Credit Union ONE Grand Rapids Branch Manager Sharon Blower, “It was wonderful that so many people came in concerned that they received too much money, but when they realized the additional money was theirs to keep as a thank you for their patronage, they were very excited!”

Promotional marketing efforts included email blasts to Grand Rapids Branch members, online banking notifications, flyers that were posted in the branch and on the ATM, as well as Facebook postings during the month of July.

During the event, a couple of winners volunteered for a photo, which were posted on Facebook generating some good conversation. Some of the comments included questions regarding whether we were going to do this in other locations and when.

Although no other promotions like this have been scheduled, Credit Union ONE is looking at scheduled more “Money Give-Aways” in the future.
