Credit Union ONE makes strides to Walk for Warmth

Ferndale, Michigan – With just under a month to go, employees of Credit Union ONE are gearing up in preparation for the 22nd Annual Walk for Warmth which will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills. Walkers are collecting pledges, and Credit Union ONE will donate to the cause on behalf of each employee that walks.

The Walk For Warmth is an annual event that raises funds and promotes awareness of the emergency needs of low-income people. All funds raised benefit those who face heat-related emergencies during Michigan’s harsh winters.

"We are proud to once again be a part of the Walk for Warmth," said John Kozich, Executive Director of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE.  Our staff looks forward to this event every year, and the opportunity to help those in our local communities.

In 2011, over 524 families and 778 individuals were assisted by the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA) with funds from Walk for Warmth, and as always, 100 percent of all proceeds go back into the community.

The new venue this year will offer walkers great entertainment as well as shopping discounts from various outlet stores throughout the mall.

"The ONE to Ask: Lending" presented by Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – When individuals have questions on financial topics they need someone to ask. This is where Credit Union ONE comes in.

In response to what their members were asking for, last year Credit Union ONE launched The ONE to Ask, a Facebook online chat for members to post questions and get them answered by subject experts during a one-hour live session. As the series has continued to grow and Credit Union ONE is seeing a larger fan base, they have expanded their “live sessions” to two hours in order to accommodate the number of questions received.

In 2012, they are continuing with this program, as indicators are showing the event to be gaining popularity with the next session tentatively planned for sometime in the spring.

Just this week, the third event of The ONE to Ask was hosted by Darlene Stuart, Vice President of Lending Operations for Credit Union ONE, and Laura Hoag, Director of Real Estate Lending for Credit Union ONE. Stuart and Hoag shared notes on a variety of lending and mortgage topics with fans of the page, from how to improve your credit score, to some of the best options for debt consolidation and mortgage refinancing.

According to Stuart and Hoag, both appreciated the opportunity to speak with the members online and to give them assistance with some of the things they might be experiencing. Whether members have a situation that they need help with, or are just looking for general information Credit Union ONE is happy to share some tips and direction for their particular need.

Ferndale, MI – Earlier this week, Credit Union ONE presented an $8,000 check to the Beaumont Foundation in support of the 2011 Children’s Miracle Network (CNN) Cares for Kids Radiothon which took place at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Held in May, this was the fourth annual radiothon for Beaumont Children’s Hospital and WDVD 96.3 FM, but the first year for Credit Union ONE to provide a back-up phone bank and sponsorship for the event.

During the Radiothon, credit union employees handled the overflow calls that would otherwise have been lost from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Credit Union ONE headquarters in Ferndale, Michigan.

In addition to supporting the phone bank, Credit Union ONE contributed a Power Hour donation of $4,000 and has received matching funds from the Co-Op Financial Services Miracle Match Program, bringing the total to $8,000 for the Radiothon. Credit union members were also encouraged to call in during the Power Hour to have their donation matched.

“We are happy we were able to lend this support to such a worthy cause as the Children’s Miracle Network, and partner with Beaumont Children’s Hospital in their endeavors to raise much needed funds,” said Gary A. Moody, Credit Union ONE President/CEO.

The purpose of the radiothon is to raise funds to provide life saving equipment, specialized pediatric programs, and charity care to help thousands of kids in metropolitan Detroit.

“Credit Union ONE continues to provide the perfect blend of corporate partnership and community benefit,” said Tom McGannon, Associate Vice President-Development for the Beaumont Foundation. Credit Union ONE works directly with the Children’s Miracle Network team at Beaumont to raise funds through public events that impact more than 50,000 children in metro Detroit every year.
