Ferndale, Michigan - Credit Union ONE held a document shred day at two of their branches on Saturday, May 17, 2014.

Members of both the Ferndale and Grand Rapids branches took the opportunity to do some spring cleaning and rid themselves of unwanted documents.

“The shredding event was created to raise awareness about the risks of identity theft and fraud, and to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of unneeded paperwork," said John Kozich, Vice President of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE.  "Every year several million people are victims of identity theft, and with events like this we hope to lessen the risk for our members.”

In Ferndale, it was fast paced, with approximately 4.5 tons of paper collected, which may be a record for this branch.  In Grand Rapids, close to another 1.5 tons was shredded with over 60 members in attendance.

In addition to the success of the shredding event, generous members donated $215 to support the Children’s Miracle Network while at the Ferndale event.

"I am so thankful that Credit Union ONE provides such great services for its' members," said Pamela Roundtree; while another long-time Credit Union ONE member Linda Cooke said, "having events like this for members is such a great idea, thank you for thinking of us!"

Shred Corp., the industry-leading document recycling company donated their time and equipment to provide secure on-site shredding services.  After the event, the shredded paper waste was taken away for recycling into paper towel.

Credit Union ONE takes a “hit” for charity

Credit Union ONE's CU Busters ready for action
Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE is proud to have taken part in a Dodge Ball Tournament for charity hosted by the Lansing Area Credit Unions.

The Tournament consisted of twenty-two credit union teams that went head-to-head, in a fun, bragging-rights only style of tournament that netted approximately $1,125 for a local children’s charity.

This was the second year that Credit Union ONE has participated in the event, and even though they were not the ultimate winners, the Team had a respectable 3 win/3 loss record.

What a great way to let off some steam and raise funds for a worthy cause too!
