Ferndale, Michigan – Over 500 members showed up at the Credit Union ONE Macomb Branch on Saturday, May 31, 2014 to participate in a document shred day.  More than seven tons of documents were shredded as members took the opportunity to protect themselves from identity theft and fraud.

“Every year several million people are victims of identity theft.  In an effort to create an awareness about the risks of identity theft and fraud, and to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of unneeded paperwork, Credit Union ONE has been holding document shred events for our members," said John Kozich, Vice President of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE.  "The response continues to grow as more members are becoming aware of the dangers of identity theft and fraud, and we plan to continue offering this service at various Credit Union ONE locations.”
In addition to the success of the shredding event, generous members donated over $250 to support the Children’s Miracle Network while at the event.
"I really appreciate the service Credit Union ONE gives me and the free services it offers, such as this shred day," said Karen Stefanski, Credit Union ONE member.
Shred Corp., the industry-leading document recycling company donated their time and equipment to provide secure on-site shredding services.  After the event, the shredded paper waste was taken away for recycling into paper towel.
