Credit Union ONE supports Ferndale Library’s Make Your Mark Campaign

(L to R) Library Trustees look on as Ferndale Library Director Jessica Keyser
accepts sponsorship check from John Kozich, Vice President of Community
Relations for Credit Union ONE
Ferndale, Michigan – As part of the Make Your Mark campaign, Credit Union ONE has recently partnered with the Ferndale Library as a Platinum Sponsor to adopt the Computer Lab at the library.

With the Library’s Make Your Mark campaign, businesses become active fortifiers of one of Ferndale’s most well-respected, highly-utilized institutions. Potential library sponsors will make a difference in the community by aiding the library’s overarching mission: to provide access to materials and services that inform, enrich, entertain and empower.

“We are proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of the Make Your Mark campaign for the Ferndale Public Library,” said John Kozich, Credit Union ONE Vice President of Community Relations.  This five-year sponsorship of the Computer Lab at the library is a great way for us to support and stay connected with the community.

“Several hundred people walk through our doors each day, and they definitely notice when a business steps up and supports the library,” said Library Director Jessica Keyser. “We believe this is a great opportunity for businesses to elevate their profile in the community.  We are so grateful to Credit Union ONE for their generous support of the Ferndale Public Library. We feel this partnership is such a good fit because both of our organizations are committed to the well-being of the city and its residents. By working together, we can make a big difference in the lives of many people in Ferndale and throughout Southeast Michigan.

The library encourages members of the business community to adopt programs and prominent areas of the library and be recognized as supportive partners. Make Your Mark aims to mitigate recent funding losses from property tax revenues, which have been declining every year since 2009.  Hopes for the program are that local business assistance will enable the library to diversify their income and become more financially sustainable.

Credit Union ONE hosts document shred day at Traverse City branch

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE hosted a “Shred Day” at its’ Traverse City Branch on Saturday, October 4, 2014.  A great event, many people turned out to protect themselves from identity theft and fraud by shredding approximately one ton of confidential personal and business documents.

Important information, such as social security numbers, addresses, account information, financial records or personal data, can be stolen and used to open lines of credit, charge existing credit cards or falsify personal information. Shredding documents that contain private information can protect individuals and businesses from fraudulent use of confidential data.

"We host shredding events to create and raise awareness about the risks of identity theft and fraud, and to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of unneeded paperwork," said Tamara DePonio, Credit Union ONE Traverse City Branch Manager.  "Our goal is to help the community rid themselves of unnecessary paperwork, making them less at risk and to also give them a chance to recycle at the same time."

The four hour event was coordinated with ProFILE, an industry-leading company that donated their time and equipment to provide secure on-site shredding services.

After the event, the shredded paper waste was taken away for recycling.  When you look at the recycling value, this shred day saved 12 trees, 5,000 gallons of water, 2 cubic yards of landfill, 40 cubic yards of air pollution and 58 gallons of oil.

Other document shred days are being planned for other Credit Union ONE branches next year.
