Credit Union ONE Walks for Life to Support Organ and Tissue Donation

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE (CUONE) was a proud sponsor of the 18th Annual Gift of Life Walk/Run benefiting the Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP). The event, which included a 5K and 10K race as well as a 5K walk, was held at Belle Isle State Park on July 25, 2015.

Credit Union ONE employees and their friends and families
participated in the 18th Annual Gift of Life Walk/Run.
For the third consecutive year, CUONE employees and their friends and families participated in the event and joined MOTTEP in celebrating those who have given the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

“The Life Walk is such an inspiration. It’s both heart-warming and humbling to hear the experiences of so many people who have been affected by an organ or tissue donation,” said John Kozich, Vice President of Community Relations for CUONE. “Our credit union is honored to support MOTTEP and their great cause.”

MOTTEP works year-round within communities to create awareness, promote education, and encourage individuals to consider becoming an organ donor.  The organization places a special emphasis on education in minority communities where there is traditionally lower donor participation.

MOTTEP’s Gift of Life Walk/Run is Michigan’s largest event promoting organ and tissue donation. This year’s event raised more than $75,000 and brought together a diverse group of attendees, incuding organ donors’ families, transplant recipients, medical professionals, politicians, corporate partners, and other community members.

“The Life Walk/Run is an experience that brings all our transplant partners to the communities that we serve everyday to fulfill our mission,” said Remonia Chapman, Program Director of Gift of Life MOTTEP, “We’re working to maximize organ and tissue donation for transplantation through innovative programs and exceptional service. Gift of Life MOTTEP mobilizes our message…one step at a time.”

Credit Union ONE Hosts Branch Tour for Summer Campers

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE helped a group of day campers meet one of their summer goals by hosting a tour of the credit union’s West Bloomfield branch on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.

Members of the Jewish Community Center’s Teens All Together program, located in West Bloomfield, wanted to visit a financial institution and learn more about its daily operations. The Teens All Together program is tailored for teens and young adults with special needs and focuses on vocational training, life skills, and community experiences.

Teens All Together camp counselors (L to R) Wesley Pomroy, Victoria Martinez,
and Heather Belkadi helped guide the tour with Credit Union ONE

“Credit Union ONE is always seeking the chance to encourage financial literacy, especially at a young age,” John Kozich, Vice President of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE, said.

Credit Union ONE staff, including Kozich and branch manager Ruth Reed, led 25 campers and counselors on a tour of the office. During the 45-minute tour, staff led a discussion about the different aspects of running a financial institution and explained credit unions and their roles within the community.

“Our Teens All Together participants really enjoyed the tour,” said Nichole Shotwell, Special Needs Director for the Jewish Community Center. “They deeply appreciated the kindness that was shown to them.”
