Credit Union ONE goes to Lansing for its’ members

Ferndale, Michigan – In an effort to keep their members’ funds safe and secure, Credit Union ONE’s Compliance and Regulatory Affairs Manager, Steve Dedene, along with another local credit union testified on behalf of the MCUL in front of the state House Criminal Justice Committee regarding a package of five bills related to ATM card skimming last week.

The package of bills included enhancing laws to make “skimming” a criminal offense thereby protecting members, and the prohibiting of skimming devices for sale or possession.

The Committee unanimously supported all five bills which have now been sent to the full House for a vote.  If passed, the bills will move to the Senate for consideration.

Credit Union ONE feels this legislation is necessary to protect its’ members and give them a voice by providing the necessary amendments to serve as a deterrent from committing skimming crimes and ensuring that those suspected, tried, and convicted of these crimes will be punished in a manner that is sufficient for the type of crime they are committing. 

“Ensuring that members are protected against fraudulent activity such as skimming is a top priority for Credit Union ONE,” said Dedene.  “These bills provide those protections.”

The credit union is hopeful that the legislature will pass and the governor signs the package of bills before the holiday season.

Advocacy ‘Key’ for Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – As an advocate for its members, Credit Union ONE is always concerned about political issues and how they may affect the membership of the credit union.

At the Michigan Governmental Affairs conference held on April 9-10th in Lansing, over 125 credit union leaders convened to hear from their state legislators and to discuss issues that are pertinent to credit unions.

One of the highlights of the conference was a panel discussion on political activism and how to create and foster a culture of advocacy for employees and members of credit unions. Credit Union ONE had the honor of being one of three credit unions that were asked to be part of the panel based on the cutting edge advocacy initiatives that it is currently using.

Credit Union ONE launched an internal advocacy blog for its employees late in 2012 that keeps them abreast of the latest developments on the political front, as well as gives them the opportunity to take part in reaching out to legislators to either thank them or ask for their support when necessary. The credit union also reaches out to its members and gives them the information they need to contact lawmakers about important credit union issues, and to keep them informed with impactful information. Lastly, as part of the media strategy of the credit union, legislators received every news release that is issued by the credit union to keep Credit Union ONE top of mind with them.

2012 Michigan Credit Union League Action Fund (MCULAF) Charity Match Online Auction-Bid Now!!

Ferndale, MI - Looking for cool items for holiday gifts, or even something special for yourself??? Well, we have the answer for you.

The 2012 MCULAF online auction began at 9:00am on Monday October 15th and ends at noon on Friday October 19th

All funds raised from the auction will go to support the MCULAF PAC and a matching donation will be made by the Michigan Credit Union League to the Children’s Miracle Network. The MCULAF PAC is organized for the purpose of making campaign contributions to credit-union friendly candidates for the Michigan State Legislature and other statewide elective offices. Having elected officials who support credit unions helps to ensure credit unions continue to play a critical role with their members, businesses, and communities.

Members of any MCUL affiliated credit union who are at least 21 years old are eligible to take part in the auction and bid on items. Credit Union ONE is an affiliated credit union of the MCUL. If you are not a member of Credit Union ONE you may find out if the credit union you belong to is an affiliated member of the MCUL on the online auction site. If you are not a member of an MCUL affiliated credit union you may not participate in the online auction.

As mentioned before all proceeds from the auction will go to support the MCULAF PAC. In addition the MCUL and affiliates will make a matching contribution for each winning bid to the Children’s Miracle Network. Contributions to MCULAF are not considered charitable or business expenses for income tax purposes. Contributions to MCULAF are completely voluntary and will be used for political purposes.

Ticket sales “Simply Grand” at Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – When employees put their heart and soul into a promotion, the results can be “simply grand”. This is what Credit Union ONE experienced when they promoted the Michigan Credit Union League Legislative Action Fund (MCULLAF) Grand Raffle.

Staff was incented to sell the tickets, with special prizes based on friendly competition between the eighteen branches of Credit Union ONE. The top seling branch, Credit Union ONE South West Detroit won dinner at the restaurant of their choice, while the second place branch won lunch and third place won breakfast for their staff.

Credit union contributions to legislative candidates who support the credit union movement is very important. In Michigan, the Michigan Credit Union League Legislative Action Fund (MCULLAF) is responsible for fundraising programs to ensure that credit unions have a strong voice in Washington, D.C.

Annually, one of the MCULLAF programs is the Grand Raffle, which credit unions throughout the state participate by selling raffle tickets for $5.00 each. This year on November 19th the winning ticket holder will be receiving their choice of either $20,000 toward the purchase of a 2012 GMC Sierra 1500, a 2012 Chevy Sonic or $20,000 cash.

Employees of Credit Union ONE sold 1,295 tickets between May-July 2012 for a total of $6,495 towards the MCULLAF Grand Raffle goal of $225,000. This is a 35% increase in their sales from last year, which earned them a Top 10 selling credit union designation and a Credit Union ONE record for fundraising.

Support Credit Union Movement for a Chance to Win $20,000

Ferndale, Michigan - Credit Union ONE is kicking off ticket sales for the MCULLAF Grand Raffle tomorrow! 

The MCULLAF (Michigan Credit Union League Legislative Action Fund) is one the Michigan credit union movement’s non-partisan political action committees (PAC) that plays a vital role in ensuring credit unions have a strong voice in Washington, D.C.  Funds from this raffle will go directly to the MCULLAF which in turn makes contributions to candidates for the U.S. Congress and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) PAC.

*Tickets are only $5.00 each, and can be purchased at any Credit Union ONE branch location.

This year’s grand prize is $20,000 towards the purchase of a 2012 Chevy Sonic or 2012 GMC Sierra 1500, or $20,000 cash. The seller of the winning ticket will receive $500. Ticket will be sold through October 19, 2012, and the drawing will be held on Monday, November 19th, 2012.

Last year Credit Union ONE sold 960 tickets, with a goal this year to sell 1,100 tickets. "Our members really enjoyed the opportunity to win such a great prize last year, and with the enthusiasm from our staff and members we are optimistic that we will meet our ticket sales goal," said Gary Moody, President and CEO of Credit Union ONE.  "This is an easy way for all of us to make sure our collective voices are heard."
