Ferndale, Michigan – Over 450 people turned out at Credit Union ONE’s Macomb Branch on Saturday, October 26, 2013 to participate in a document shred day.  Members were thrilled with the opportunity to protect themselves from identity theft and fraud by shredding more than six tons of confidential personal and business documents.

“Every year several million people are victims of identity theft.  The shredding event was created to raise awareness about the risks of identity theft and fraud, and to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of unneeded paperwork," said John Kozich, Vice President of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE.  "The response for this event was nothing short of amazing, and there are plans to continue offering this service at Credit Union ONE locations next year.”

In addition to the success of the shredding event, generous members donated over $300 to support the Children’s Miracle Network while at the event.

"Credit unions and banks talk about service and friendliness, but you guys knock it out of the park by offering free services, such as these shred days," said Will Sosnowsky, a long-time Credit Union ONE member.

Shred Corp., the industry-leading document recycling company donated their time and equipment to provide secure on-site shredding services.  After the event, the shredded paper waste was taken away for recycling into paper towel.
