Shred Day held at the Sterling Heights Branch of Credit Union ONE
Ferndale, Michigan – When important information gets into the wrong hands it can be devastating for those affected.

In an effort to help their members and the community at large, Credit Union ONE recently held a document shredding day at their Sterling Heights Branch location. Over 100 people turned out on Saturday, May 18, 2013 to protect themselves from identity theft and fraud by shredding more than 4,000 pounds of confidential personal and business documents.

Documents containing information such as social security numbers, addresses, account information, financial records or personal data, can be stolen and used to open lines of credit, use existing credit cards or to falsify personal information. Shredding documents that contain private information can protect individuals and businesses from fraudulent use of confidential data.

Along with the shredding, members also had the opportunity to donate to the Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak Children's Hospital through the Children's Miracle Network. Approximately $150 was collected for the hospital.

“Every year Credit Union ONE provides this valuable service for our members as safe and convenient way to dispose of unneeded paperwork," said John Kozich, Executive Director of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE.

Working closely with Shred Corp., the industry-leading company that donated their time and equipment to provide secure on-site shredding services, Credit Union ONE coordinated the three-hour event for their members. The shredded paper waste collected was taken away for recycling into paper towel.

"This is an awesome way to to help and remove important papers, and I am happy my credit union has this service available for members," said Credit Union ONE member Paul Jaboro.
