Credit Union ONE is giving away money!

Lucky Money Giveaway winners
 Dan Zalewski & Marisela Bobo

Ferndale, Michigan – Have you ever gotten more than you asked for at an ATM? Well, if you visited the Credit Union ONE Grand Rapids branch in July and used their ATM that might have happened to you.

This past month, those using the machine located at 1609 Walker NW in Grand Rapids may randomly have received a $50 bill instead of a $20 bill in their transaction. Approximately $2,000 was given out to lucky recipients.

The promotion which ran from July 10th through July 31st was designed to create awareness of the ATM and branch location, support the current branch efforts, and to show member appreciation.

And speaking of appreciation, according to Credit Union ONE Grand Rapids Branch Manager Sharon Blower, “It was wonderful that so many people came in concerned that they received too much money, but when they realized the additional money was theirs to keep as a thank you for their patronage, they were very excited!”

Promotional marketing efforts included email blasts to Grand Rapids Branch members, online banking notifications, flyers that were posted in the branch and on the ATM, as well as Facebook postings during the month of July.

During the event, a couple of winners volunteered for a photo, which were posted on Facebook generating some good conversation. Some of the comments included questions regarding whether we were going to do this in other locations and when.

Although no other promotions like this have been scheduled, Credit Union ONE is looking at scheduled more “Money Give-Aways” in the future.

Charitable Giving Efforts Underway at Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – The winter season is especially hard for families struggling to make ends meet. In an effort to assist those in the communities we serve, Credit Union ONE is once again participating in collection efforts for a few different organizations.

This year, the organizations that Credit Union ONE will be supporting through donations from its employees and members include Toys for Tots, Forgotten Harvest and Children’s Miracle Network.

Toys for Tots collection boxes will be available at all Credit Union ONE branch locations until December 15th for those wishing to contribute new, unwrapped toys.

Forgotten Harvest Holiday Food Drive will also have containers at all Metro Detroit Credit Union ONE branches to collect non-perishable food items, with much of the collection this year going to help the Salvation Army with their food needs. Food donations will be accepted until December 19th.

To support Children’s Miracle Network, holiday cut-outs are available for purchase at select Credit Union ONE locations throughout the month of December.

“Credit unions at their core are about people helping people,” said Gary Moody, President and CEO of Credit Union ONE. “Typically we are about providing credit and a safe place to save. Throughout the year we engage in many community and charitable activities, but at this time of year we go all out to live the people helping people philosophy and provide for those less fortunate and in need. Each toy, can of food and dollar donated by employees and our members have a direct and tangible positive impact on our communities.”

Anyone interested in donating to one of these causes may visit any Credit Union ONE branch to make their contribution.

Credit Union ONE members are rewarded with over $1,000,000

Ferndale, Michigan – Now more than ever, Credit Union ONE members are using their Cash Back Checking account and reaching for the card that gives them rewards in many ways.

Since the inception of the Cash Back Checking program less than two years ago, Credit Union ONE members have earned over $1,000,000 in cash rewards. Over 13,600 members have received a cash reward this year, and more than 300 of them have earned $150 or more.

“Hitting the $1 million mark in rewards cash to our members so quickly after launching this product exceeds all of our expectations,” said Gary Moody, President and CEO of Credit Union ONE. “We knew giving our members cash to use our card would be an attractive value proposition, but not this attractive. The simple message and novel concept of getting paid by your financial institution to use a debit card has resonated well in a marketplace where it seems every day there is a story about some new fee being charged. We are looking forward to the continued success of this program and hitting the next million in cash back rewards.”

Members in the program receive points for using their platinum debit card and signing for their purchases. One point is awarded for every $2.00 spent, and once 3,500 points have accumulated they can be redeemed for cash which is automatically deposited into the Cash Back Checking account. Key to this program is that points never expire and there is no limit to what a member can earn.

In addition to cash back rewards, Credit Union ONE members enjoy many benefits of the platinum debit card, such as; extended warranty coverage, price protection, and purchase assurance. These are features that normally would be found in a fee-based credit card program, as opposed to a no-cost debit card program, which makes this a very unique product.

"The ONE to Ask: Debt" presented by Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – With events occurring every day that can sometimes be life-changing, it is important to have somewhere to go when you have questions on financial topics. This is where Credit Union ONE comes in.

Earlier this year, Credit Union ONE launched The ONE to Ask, a Facebook online chat for members to post questions and get them answered by a subject expert during a one-hour live session.

Most recently, the second event of The ONE to Ask was hosted by Stephen Grech, Executive Vice President of Credit Union ONE. Mr. Grech fielded questions from listeners on the topic of debt. General areas of discussion included how to build or rebuild credit, what types of debt to pay first, and what to do if you cannot fully pay your debt.

According to Mr. Grech, “It’s always great to hear directly from real life members and non-members who are facing the realities and challenges presented by the economic and housing market that we all live and work in. It’s rewarding to help others by sharing industry knowledge on these real life issues.”

As the series continues, the number of questions is increasing and Credit Union ONE looks forward to growing the participation rate with future sessions. With the fan base growing, it is expected that the “live sessions” may need to be extended beyond one hour in order to accommodate the number of questions received. The next session is expected near year end.

The Lights are ON at FernCare

Ferndale, Michigan – After three years of fundraising, the lights are on and FernCare Free Clinic has moved into its permanent home at 459 East Nine Mile Road in Ferndale.

FernCare President Ann Heler said, “As we move into our permanent space, we are extremely grateful to Credit Union ONE. We would not be here, at 459 E. The clinic site is another example of Credit Union ONE’s policy of being a good neighbor in the communities they are part of. The individuals we have worked with at the credit union really made us smile…..their enthusiasm for the clinic often matched ours!”

In a fanfare of festivities, the Clinic will officially cut the ribbon and welcome the community to celebrate its Grand Opening on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Events will get underway at 10:00 a.m. beginning with a ribbon cutting, followed by speakers, including: Congressman Sander Levin, Credit Union ONE President/CEO Gary Moody, Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter, and FernCare President Ann Heler. Credit Union ONE Members Reach for the Card that Gives Back

Ferndale, Michigan – When Credit Union ONE members use their Cash Back Checking account, they reach for the card that gives them rewards in many ways.

Since the inception of the Cash Back Checking program less than two years ago, Credit Union ONE members have earned over $602,000 in cash rewards. Almost 10,000 members have received a cash reward this year, and more than 150 of them earned over $150.

“We want our members to have the most competitive debit product at the top of their wallet and we believe our program is just that,” said Gary Moody, President and CEO of Credit Union ONE.
