Credit Union ONE members take advantage of Ferndale document shredding day

Credit Union ONE Member Sandra Harl

Ferndale, Michigan – When important information gets into the wrong hands it can be devastating for those affected.

In an effort to help their members and the community at large, Credit Union ONE held a document shredding day at their Ferndale location on Saturday, May 30, 2015. More than 2,500 pounds of confidential personal and business documents were shredded on-site at the event.

Documents containing information such as social security numbers, addresses, account information, financial records or personal data, can be stolen and used to open lines of credit, use existing credit cards or to falsify personal information. Shredding documents that contain private information can protect individuals and businesses from fraudulent use of confidential data.

"Thanks to the help of Credit Union ONE I was able to purge my closet, giving me much needed space," said Credit Union ONE member Sandra Harl.

In addition to the success of the shredding event, generous members donated over $218 to support the Children’s Miracle Network while at the event.

Working closely with Shred Corp., the industry-leading company that donated their time and equipment to provide secure on-site shredding services, Credit Union ONE coordinated the three-hour event for their members. The shredded paper waste collected was taken away for recycling into paper towel.

Credit Union ONE member Regina Chalmers said, "Document shred days are great for the community, and I am glad that I am a member of a credit union that provides this type of service."

Good Shepherd Credit Union announces merger plans with Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – The $93 million Good Shepherd Credit Union (GSCU) headquartered in Lincoln Park, Michigan plans to merge into $860 million Ferndale based Credit Union ONE (CUONE) pending approval by the GSCU membership.  The membership vote is scheduled for March 25, 2015.  If approved, the merger would be effective June 30, 2015.

GSCU formed in 1957 has approximately 8,300 members and two branches in Lincoln Park and Woodhaven Michigan.  GSCU’s field of membership includes individuals who live, work, worship, or are educated in Wayne and Monroe Counties.  Credit Union ONE was organized in 1938 and has approximately 120,000 members who are served by eighteen branches throughout Metropolitan Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Traverse City.

Despite its sound financial footings and fifty-eight year successful track record, the GSCU Board of Directors decided it was in the best interests of its membership to seek a merger partner. After a thorough due diligence process the GSCU Board determined that a merger with CUONE was the best solution for GSCU members and employees.  Key factors in this decision were CUONE’s strong financial position, and its ability to deliver a high quality, full service member experience through a comprehensive delivery system.

Lisa Cook, CEO of Good Shepherd Credit Union said, “Our Board recognized that we have a shared commitment and mission of providing great service and member financial success.  Credit Union ONE has demonstrated not only its financial strength but also its values make it the right merger partner for our organization.  Merging with Credit Union ONE will allow Good Shepherd Credit Union to provide more products and services to its members, while offering greater job opportunities for its employees.  We know this is a good decision not just in the present, but looking into the future as well.”

“We welcome the decision of the GSCU Board to select CUONE as a merger partner,” said Gary Moody, President/CEO of Credit Union ONE. “This is a strategic partnership of two strong and well established institutions.  We recognize that when combined we are stronger and more capable of fulfilling our shared vision of financial strength, a sustainable business model, and the best service in the industry.  The members of both credit unions will benefit from this merger.”

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE staff and family members walked this year in the 25th Annual Walk for Warmth which was held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills.

A Heart of Bronze sponsor, Credit Union ONE contributed close to $1,000 to the Walk for Warmth, which included walker pledges and a corporate donation made on behalf of everyone that walked.

The goal this year was $180,000 for the walk, which is expected to be reached.

In 2014, over 330 families were assisted by the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA) with funds from Walk for Warmth, and the need is even greater this year.  As always, 100 percent of all proceeds go back into the community.

Credit Union ONE supports Ferndale Library’s Make Your Mark Campaign

(L to R) Library Trustees look on as Ferndale Library Director Jessica Keyser
accepts sponsorship check from John Kozich, Vice President of Community
Relations for Credit Union ONE
Ferndale, Michigan – As part of the Make Your Mark campaign, Credit Union ONE has recently partnered with the Ferndale Library as a Platinum Sponsor to adopt the Computer Lab at the library.

With the Library’s Make Your Mark campaign, businesses become active fortifiers of one of Ferndale’s most well-respected, highly-utilized institutions. Potential library sponsors will make a difference in the community by aiding the library’s overarching mission: to provide access to materials and services that inform, enrich, entertain and empower.

“We are proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of the Make Your Mark campaign for the Ferndale Public Library,” said John Kozich, Credit Union ONE Vice President of Community Relations.  This five-year sponsorship of the Computer Lab at the library is a great way for us to support and stay connected with the community.

“Several hundred people walk through our doors each day, and they definitely notice when a business steps up and supports the library,” said Library Director Jessica Keyser. “We believe this is a great opportunity for businesses to elevate their profile in the community.  We are so grateful to Credit Union ONE for their generous support of the Ferndale Public Library. We feel this partnership is such a good fit because both of our organizations are committed to the well-being of the city and its residents. By working together, we can make a big difference in the lives of many people in Ferndale and throughout Southeast Michigan.

The library encourages members of the business community to adopt programs and prominent areas of the library and be recognized as supportive partners. Make Your Mark aims to mitigate recent funding losses from property tax revenues, which have been declining every year since 2009.  Hopes for the program are that local business assistance will enable the library to diversify their income and become more financially sustainable.
