Junior Achievement Classes in Traverse City

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE Branch Manager Michelle Kilinski of Traverse City just completed teaching two Junior Achievement Classes in June. Michelle taught 19 First Grade students once a week on Monday’s in Megan Wolf’s class at Blair Elementary, and 20 students on Thursday in Sarah Mooney’s second grade class at Blair Elementary.



The first grade theme was “ JA Ourselves “ which focused on the value of work, choices, giving, along with earning and saving. The second grade class learned the “ JA Our Community “ a program which focused on learning about different jobs in a community and how money moves through it, along with how people work together, and how taxes work and what that affords a community. With her first time in the program Michelle stated “ I had a JA class in middle school and it really left an impression on me, I see the lack of financial education across many backgrounds and ages, and I want to help people learn and not be scared of all things money” Michelle stated. “ I was glad that I could work out the time commitment and the teachers schedule as both classrooms were wonderful students”.

Credit Union ONE Repacks Food For Forgotten Harvest

Ferndale, Michigan – Twenty Two Members of Credit Union ONE’S Leadership Team volunteered about three hours each on June 5th, to repack and help ship over 8,500 pounds of food . Included were peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and beef sticks. This food is rescued from stores and food plants, and redistributed to help those who are in need.


In 2013 Credit Union ONE started a partnership with Forgotten Harvest by holding food drive collections during the Holiday’s. For the last two years members of the Credit Union ONE  Leadership Team have volunteered at both the Distribution Center and a Forgotten Harvest Farm.

“ It is amazing what gets accomplished at these food repacking events in such a short amount of time” said John Kozich Vice President of Community Relations.” This is a great teambuilding exercise and it really helps out Forgotten Harvest”. Future events are being planned with Forgotten Harvest and the Leadership Team of Credit Union ONE.

$10,000 in Scholarships Awarded by Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE has announced the William G. Coyne Memorial Scholarship Awards for 2017. This year, nine graduating high school seniors were selected to receive scholarships totaling $10,000.

Eric Nielsen of Lake Orion has been awarded $2,000; while Madison Murdoch of Dearborn, Brendan Hogan of Plymouth, John Vulaj of Sterling Heights, Ilana Weinfeld of Farmington Hills, Nina Como of Troy, Noah Tylutki of Grosse Ile, Maureen Luddy of Royal Oak, and William Bostick of St.Clair have all been awarded $1,000.



The Scholarship recipients were selected based on exemplary academics, community service, and written essays.

The William G. Coyne Memorial Credit Union ONE Scholarship Program, named in honor of the late Chairman of the Board of Directors, was created in 2009 to help the credit union’s student members further their education after high school.

‘As a community based member-owned organization, we are proud of these young people and are pleased to be able to give back to our student members to assist in their successes,” said Paul Stuart, Credit Union ONE Chairman of the Board.

Continuing Education Scholarship Recipients Chosen For 2017

Ferndale, Michigan – Two Scholarship Recipients were chosen in the first year of this Scholarship Program. $2,500 was awarded to Amarachi Wachuku of Bloomfield Hills, and Stacy Simmons of Detroit.

In expanding Credit Union ONE’S Scholarship programs, some of the qualifications for this program included:

Be a Member of Credit Union ONE of Michigan, Be a high school or GED graduate with a gap in education of two years or more, Plan to enroll in the fall of 2017 in undergraduate classes at an accredited two or four-year college or university, or accredited trade or vocational school.  

“We are happy to help in the continuing education of these two 2017 recipients” said Paul Stuart, Credit Union ONE Chairman of the Board.

Credit Union ONE at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Spring Spectacular

Ferndale, Michigan – Five Credit Union ONE employees and two Board members participated in the yearly fund raising event for St Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. The Credit Union was a Bronze sponsor for the event which attracted nearly 400 guests to the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, Michigan.


 The event was emceed by Guy Gordon, and the celebrity speaker was football hall of famer and former Detroit Lion Chris Spielman. Each year the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System raises funds for a deserving area of the Hospital. This year the Mercy Dental Center will benefit from the event. 

“With our Branch Office located in the Hospital, we see on a daily basis the great work that goes on their”, said John Kozich Vice President of Community Relations.  “We are pleased to participate in this yearly fundraiser, and look forward to being a partner in the future”.

Credit Union ONE Hosts Shred Day in Macomb

Ferndale, Michigan – Clean up and Clean out was the theme as Credit Union ONE hosted a paper document shred day on Saturday May 20th at the Macomb Township Branch. Over Five tons of paper was collected and shredded on site, as Members lined up and participated between 9am and Noon. Also almost $400.00 was collected in donations for the Beaumont Children’s Hospital in Royal Oak. 


The Credit Union hosts free document shred days in the spring and fall of the year, to encourage awareness and help members securely destroy confidential material. 

Credit Union ONE member Sherry Boyd was pleased with the day,” Thanks to Credit Union ONE for organizing this event for such a great cause”. 

“Identity theft is such a real and ongoing threat, and our members are certainly responding with continued large turnouts at each and every one that we host” John Kozich, Vice President of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE said. “ We collected over 10 tons of paper, and nearly $700.00 in donations for the Beaumont Children’s Hospital at our two May events”.
