OU Women’s Basketball Team Scores with Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – The Oakland University (OU) sports teams were recently involved in a Varsity Sports Smackdown, and the results are in: The OU Women’s Basketball Team has taken the honors!!

Geared as a way to engage with Oakland University students, the “Smackdown” was used to generate awareness of Credit Union ONE as the university credit union of choice and to connect with student groups and give them the opportunity to earn funds for their organization.

During the month of March, members and friends had the opportunity to vote for their favorite Oakland University Varsity Sports team by liking the Credit Union ONE Campus Branch page on Facebook and voting for their favorite team on the page, with the winning team receiving a cash prize. Anyone opening an account at the Credit Union ONE Campus Branch could also receive an additional 100 votes for the team of their choice. Teams were encouraged to spread the word to their families and friends to boost their vote total. The votes were tallied and the team with the most votes was declared the winner, receiving a check from Credit Union ONE for $375.00.

When asked about the sweepstakes, Kevin Trembath, Branch Manager of Credit Union ONE Oakland University Branch said, “This sweepstakes was a win-win for everyone.” “For Credit Union ONE, it engaged the current fans of the Credit Union ONE OU Facebook page and it also gave more visibility to our OU Campus Branch. For our student members, we were able to give back to them and show them that their causes are important to Credit Union ONE.”

Oakland University Students Hunt for Credit Union Loot

 Ferndale, Michigan – Looking for Loot, yes, that’s what Oakland University students were doing when they joined in the Welcome Week Scavenger Hunt that was put on by Credit Union ONE via their Facebook page.

The Scavenger Hunt ran during Welcome Week, September 4-7 which was the first week of classes for Oakland University (OU) students.

Geared as a way to engage with OU students, the Hunt was used to generate awareness of Credit Union ONE as the university credit union of choice and to connect with students as the school year begins.

An avatar was created for the Scavenger Hunt, and during Welcome Week the look-a-like character walked around campus and handed out buck slips promoting the Hunt to students.

Students had the chance to participate by “liking” the Credit Union ONE OU Facebook page. On designated days, once an hour, the credit union posted a clue on their OU Facebook page directing students to various locations on campus where a flyer was posted with a prize code. The first three students each day to email in with the code won $250 cash, $100 cash, and $50 cash respectively. Those emailing in after the daily prizes were also awarded having the opportunity to win gift cards by opening a checking account and debit card with the credit union.

Analytics after the promotion concluded showed that the Scavenger Hunt was successful in what it set out to do. Approximately 110 new fans were gained, as well as over 30 “likes” and many comments regarding the Scavenger Hunt and Credit Union ONE in general.

The Scavenger Hunt was the perfect opportunity to welcome new and returning OU students, as well as to engage them in our social media efforts, said Kevin Trembath, Credit Union ONE OU Branch Manager. We are committed to the OU community and look forward to a successful year.”

Oakland University Honors College students receive Credit Union ONE Scholarships

Ferndale, Michigan – Continuing the partnership, Credit Union ONE and the Oakland University Honors College Scholarship and Awards Committee joined together to make a exceptional college education more accessible to academically promising students.

Later this fall at the 2012 President’s Scholarship Luncheon, held at Oakland University, these students will be recognized as Credit Union ONE scholarship recipients. This year Credit Union ONE awarded approximately $67,000 in scholarships to Oakland University Honors College students.

Alexander Pozanski of Waterford, Marisa Cervantes of Warren, and Vincenzo Julian of Troy were selected to receive Credit Union ONE COS Awards, the most prestigious awards offered by the Honors College. The full-ride scholarship, covers the fall 2012 and winter 2013 semesters.

These full-time, incoming freshmen benefit from paid tuition and room and board, as well as a book stipend for each semester. They were selected on the basis of their potential to maintain good academic standing and demonstrate meaningful leadership in The Honors College, at Oakland University or in their communities.

Also awarded for the fall 2012and winter 2013 semesters were six $2,000 Credit Union ONE CO Awards. These, too were based on each recipient’s potential to maintain good academic standing and demonstrate meaningful leadership. This year’s awardees are Stefen Kutchey of St. Clair Shores, Rachael Lynn of Troy, Nicole Redko of Troy, Courtney Cutler of Southfield, Holly Ernst of Armada, and Nicholas Strand of China Township.

“With the help of these scholarships, we look forward to seeing these exemplary students flourish both academically and socially at Oakland,” said Graeme Harper, director of The Honors College. “We appreciate the generosity of Credit Union ONE, and fully expect that the recipients will use their many talents to advance the vibrant intellectual and community life at The Honors College.”

“It is an honor for Credit Union ONE to award these fine and deserving students with scholarships. They symbolize our commitment to Oakland University, its students and the entire Oakland University community,” said Gary Moody, Credit Union ONE president and chief executive officer.

Established in 1977, The Honors College curriculum is designed for highly motivated students who desire academic rigor and wish to be part of a diverse community that values creativity, intellectual stimulation, and social responsibility. Small classes – typically 10 to 20 students – allow for fruitful interaction between professors and students and encourage independent thought. It’s all “Greek” to Credit Union ONE

 Ferndale, Michigan – To many college students their participation in fraternities and sororities is a very important part of their college life.

Credit Union ONE realizes this, and in an effort to engage these students as well as to help contribute to their causes, ran a special giveaway on the Credit Union ONE Oakland University Facebook page called the Greek “Like” Giveaway.

During the month of March, members and friends had the opportunity to vote for their favorite Oakland University greek organization by liking the Credit Union ONE Campus Branch page on Facebook and posting the name of their favorite organization on the page. Anyone opening an account at the Credit Union ONE Campus Branch could also receive an additional 50 votes for the organization of their choice. The votes were tallied and the organization with the most votes won a $250 donation to their national philanthropy, with the second most votes winning a $125 donation to their national philanthropy from Credit Union ONE. Organizations were encouraged to spread the word to their families and friends to boost their vote total.

Fifteen organizations at the university participated and 1,392 votes were received on the Facebook page.  Besides the significant number of votes received, approximately 600 comments were received on the page, and the fan base increased by 470 fans, a 63% increase.

The voting was fierce, but in the end it was Gamma Phi Beta that won the competition with 670 votes, and Phi Sigma Sigma coming in second with 294 votes.
“Our chapter was ecstatic when we heard the news that we won the Credit Union ONE Greek “Like” Giveaway,” said Silvanah Gagnon, President of the Delta Omega Chapter of Gammi Phi Beta Sorority. “We thank Credit Union ONE for their donation and will proudly be presenting the $250 check that we received to our national charity, Camp Fire USA.”

When asked about the promotion, Swami Seetharaman, Chief Marketing Officer of Credit Union ONE said, “This promotion was a win-win for everyone.” “For Credit Union ONE, it brought in new fans as well as engaging the current fans of the Credit Union ONE Oakland University Facebook page. It also gave more visibility to our Oakland University Campus Branch. For our student members, we were able to give back to them and show them that their causes are important to Credit Union ONE.”

Credit Union ONE scholarships help Oakland University students excel in The Honors College

 Ferndale, Michigan – Once again, Credit Union ONE and the Oakland University Honors College Scholarship and Awards Committee joined together to make a exceptional college education more accessible to academically promising students.

The 2011 President’s Scholarship Luncheon, held at Oakland University on October 12, 2011 recognized these students as Credit Union ONE scholarship recipients. This year Credit Union ONE awarded approximately $67,000 in scholarships to Oakland University Honors College students.

Erin Feeney of Oxford, Alexander Grix of White Lake, and Cody Petzold of Holly were selected to receive Credit Union ONE COS Awards, the most prestigious awards offered by the Honors College. The full-ride scholarship, covers the fall 2011 and winter 2012 semesters.

Oakland University Students Give Credit Union ONE "Thumbs-Up"

Ferndale, Michigan – Gearing up for school to be back in session, the Oakland University branch of Credit Union ONE held a Welcome Week Giveaway, from August 22 – September 9, 2011.

During this time, students had the opportunity to visit with Credit Union ONE branch staff and take advantage of the opportunities to be entered to win all sorts of cool prizes, such as food/gas cards, Oakland University bookstore certificates, apparel items, and even an Apple iPad!

Students entered the prize drawings by “liking” us on Facebook, opening a checking account with the SpiritCardPLUS feature, or sending in a postcard entry. Students entering the drawing received water bottles, candy and other small items, along with the chance of winning one of the other prizes.

Students overwhelmingly loved this promotion as over 150 new checking accounts were opened during Welcome Week. In addition, over 750 Oakland University students have given Credit Union ONE the “thumbs-up” to date by choosing to “like” us on Facebook, over 300 of which were gained during this three week period.

The lucky winner of the Apple iPad was student Bethany Jackson who was totally shocked and very happy to have been chosen as the winner..

Thomas Schaeffler Awarded Oakland University 2010 Spirit Award

Credit Union ONE Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Thomas Schaeffler was recently presented with the Oakland University 2010 Spirit Award, which commends exemplary volunteer service to the university.

An alumni, Mr. Schaeffler was one of several distinguished graduates recognized for achieving remarkable success in business, community service, volunteerism and other endeavors at the 16th Annual Oakland University Alumni Awards Banquet held on Saturday, November 6, 2010.

“I am truly honored to accept this award,” said Thomas Schaeffler, E.V.P./C.O.O. of Credit Union ONE. “It has been rewarding for me personally to give back to the university I attended and who has done so much for our community over the years. I look forward to the opportunity to be able to continue a volunteer role with the university in the future.”
