Credit Union ONE Celebrates Youth Month with the Ferndale Area District Library

Credit Union ONE partnered with the Ferndale Area District Library to host a series of money-themed events for local children and their families. The events were designed to teach children of all ages about the value of money, the importance of saving, and the difference between a want and a need.

during the arts and crafts event.  

Three events were held at the library during the final week of April, which is recognized as Money Smart Week by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. April is also National Credit Union Youth Month and National Financial Literacy Month.

Credit Union ONE staff volunteered to help with the activities, which included an arts and crafts session where children made duct tape wallets, a story time featuring money-themed children’s books, and a price guessing game.

“We were honored to partner with the Ferndale Library to host these events for the community,” Judi Desilets, Director of Corporate Events for Credit Union ONE said. “Smart money habits start at a young age, and we believe it’s never too early to start a conversation about financial responsibility."

Ferndale, Michigan - April is National Credit Union Youth Month, and Credit Union ONE welcomed the opportunity to educate the youth in the Ferndale community and all of their branch locations about the importance of saving money beginning at an early age.
 

Recently, the credit union partnered with the Ferndale Area District Library and hosted two youth events for local children. 

On April 13th, little ones were in awe as Credit Union ONE story tellers Andrea Pertile and Judi Desilets read books to them about what money is, what it is used for and how to save it.  The children got to sing songs, make a piggy bank, and even took home a coin saver booklet to get them started.

Ferndale Area District Library's own version of “The Price Is Right” was held at the library on April 15th.  Children were invited to ‘Come on Down’ to show what they knew about money by playing pricing games and winning prizes.

 

Throughout the month of April, Youth Month Celebrations have been going on at all Credit Union ONE branches, with giveaways for children, as well as educational materials for parents.

Credit Union ONE is Wild about Youth Saving Programs

Ferndale, Michigan - April is National Credit Union Youth Month, and Credit Union ONE welcomes the opportunity to educate the youth in our community about the importance of saving money beginning at an early age.

 

We will be offering special opportunities at all Credit Union ONE branches for our youngest members throughout the month. 

Additionally, we are partnering with the Ferndale Area District Library, so please join us as we host the following events:

Story Hour at the Ferndale Area District Library, located at 222 E. Nine Mile Road, on Monday, April 13^th at 6:30 p.m.  Credit Union ONE readers will provide lots of fun and activities for children while learning about the value of money.  This activity open to the public and is geared towards children under 9 years of age.  Reservation is not required.

“The Price Is Right” will be held at the Ferndale Area District Library, on Wednesday, April 15^th at 4:30 p.m.  Credit Union ONE staff invite children aged 8-14 years of age to ‘Come on Down’ and see what they know about money and to win prizes too!  This is sure to be a crowd favorite.  Sign up is requested, and space is limited, so be sure to sign up soon by calling 248-546-2504, extension 4 (youth desk).

Ferndale, Michigan – Educating the youth of today for a better tomorrow is important to Credit Union ONE.  When the opportunity arose to be part of an educational event during Money Smart Week, the credit union knew this was something that they definitely wanted to be involved with.

 

As concerned community partners, the credit union recently participated in a financial literacy event at the Hazel Park Library.  The program included games that focused on financial education teachings which were donated by Credit Union ONE, along with goody bags for all children attending the event.

Credit Union ONE Prepares Youth for Financial Future

Ferndale, Michigan –Recently Credit Union ONE visited a local high school and gave them some much needed information on the basics of financial fitness.

As part of their curriculum, seniors at Farmington Mercy High School are required to complete a Life Skills class. Instructor Lorraine Kusch reached out to Credit Union ONE Farmington Branch Manager Paul Tocco about sponsoring the materials needed for the financial literacy portion of the class. It was during the conversation that Tocco and Kusch decided that it would be a great benefit to these students if Tocco could make a presentation on financial basics to the class.

On March 12th, twenty-five Mercy High School students participated in a financial presentation given by Mr. Tocco. “I enjoyed sharing general financial knowledge with these students, and genuinely appreciated their open and honest questions,” said Paul Tocco. “Our participation in community programs such as this helps to establish good financial habits in our youth for their future.”

According to Mercy High School Teacher Lorraine Kusch, “The class really enjoyed the presentation given by Credit Union ONE. Paul Tocco gave the students excellent information, and they are looking forward to working on the financial booklets provided by the credit union. We are appreciative of our relationship with Credit Union ONE and its’ anticipated continuation.”

Children Learn to Save at Credit Union ONE

Ferndale, Michigan – Knowing how important it is to start teaching children about money from an early age, Credit Union ONE has debuted the Saving Is Fun Kids Club, a youth account geared to children eleven years and younger.

With an easy sign-up for new or existing memberships, children will join club mascots, the Money Mammals to learn about saving and spending, while earning prizes and incentive rewards, playing games, and watching their money grow.

A special website, cuone.org/youth has been designed especially for “club members” with fun activities, contests, promotions and discounts. The site also has tools for parents and teachers to help these young members along the way.

“Children need to be educated on financial basics as they go through life, and a youth account is a great way to expose them to this education in a fun, interactive way, said Swami Seetharaman, Credit Union ONE Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.  Ferndale, Michigan – Preparing students for the future is very important, especially when it comes to knowing about the basics of savings and credit.

Credit Union ONE recently had the opportunity to help out a local high school in Farmington Hills.

Seniors in Instructor Lorraine Kusch’s class at Mercy High School are required to complete a Life Skills class as part of their curriculum. On March 27th, nineteen Mercy High School students participated in a very interactive presentation given by Mr. Tocco. “I appreciated the openness and honesty of these students,” said Paul Tocco. “Being able to participate in community outreach and bring the message of good financial stewardship to our youth is key in establishing good habits for their future.”

According to Mercy High School Teacher Lorraine Kusch, “The class really enjoyed the presentation given by Credit Union ONE. Paul Tocco gave the students very practical information on banking, which will help them to make smarter decisions in their lives going forward. We are looking forward to the opportunity to have Paul come back and present to our class again next year.”

Tobin Selected As Five Star Wealth Manager
