Credit Union ONE supports Diabetes Walk

Ferndale, Michigan – Continuing to help make strides in the fight to cure Diabetes, Credit Union ONE participated in the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, held at the Detroit Zoo on Saturday, September 14, 2013. 

Approximately 150 Credit Union ONE employees, along with friends and family contributed $4,000 in combined corporate and individual donations. 

“The walk was a good opportunity for us to participate in a cause that touches all of us in one way or another,” said Swami Seetharaman, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Credit Union ONE.  “Being able to contribute to an organization such as the American Diabetes Association allows us to support our life science partners in the community.”

One of many Step Out Walks throughout the country, the Walk held in Detroit had a goal this year of $600,000. With over 3,500 walkers and volunteers, they have already raised over $550,000 with several commitments expected, and are confident they will reach their goal by the end of the campaign. Over .84 cents of each dollar raised goes directly into research and programs to help the over 25 million people in the USA with this illness.

Credit Union ONE celebrates Diamond Anniversary

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE celebrated its 75th anniversary on Saturday, September 7th with an open house at its corporate offices in Ferndale.

Festivities began with remarks by Board Chairman Paul Stuart and CEO Gary Moody.  Continuing, were an unveiling of a historical timeline and a scaled model of the Credit Union ONE Corporate Offices which will serve as a time capsule, followed by tours of the building highlighting items from the credit unions’ 75 years of history.

The credit union received many special proclamations from those in attendance and some that were not able to attend.  Proclamations received included:

“Not many organizations have the longevity to be able to celebrate 75 years, and we are very grateful to the community, our Board of Directors and those who have come before us that made us who we are today,” said Gary Moody, Credit Union ONE President and CEO.  “We are excited for the many years ahead of us.”

Credit Union ONE supports LA SED Summer Camp

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE is proud to have supported the LA SED (Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development) Summer Camp for elementary to middle school aged students this summer.

The seven week program included Mathematics, English/Language Arts, Leadership Skills, Computers, and Fitness. Students also participated in activities with the senior citizens group, planting in the community garden, and going on field trips which were both fun and educational.

Partnering with LA SED, Credit Union ONE provided shirts and matching water bottles for all campers.

“On behalf of all of us at LA SED, we would like to thank Credit Union ONE for their generosity,” said Laura Mercado, LA SED Program Developer and Coordinator.  “If it weren’t for their donation we would have never been able to offer Summer Camp completely free to the students.”

Credit Union ONE brings financial workshops to Clark Park Summer Program

Clark Park Coalition Summer Program
Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE participated in a program this summer with the Clark Park Coalition as part of an enrichment series for their summer program to bring financial literacy to the youth in their community.  

Yvette Gonzalez, Branch Manager of the Credit Union ONE Southwest Detroit Branch conducted three workshops focusing on financial basics, budgeting, saving, credit, and debt management.  Ranging from junior high thru high school ages, participants received some valuable tools to assist them, and as part of the budgeting session they completed a budget worksheet for themselves.

“We appreciated the opportunity to work with the Clark Park Coalition to offer some good financial information to the students of this community and we look forward to our continued partnership,” said John Kozich, Vice President of Community Relations for Credit Union ONE.

As a FREE service to our members, the Traverse City branch of Credit Union ONE will offer document shredding services on-site Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 8:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. No appointment or sign-up required and members can bring up to 4 large boxes to shred (paper documents only, please).
