Members are encouraged to bring up to 4 boxes of paper to shred for free. Shredding documents is a more secure way of disposing personal and confidential information. 

Donations, although not required, will be accepted on behalf of Beaumont Children’s Miracle Network. 

Credit Union ONE Walks for Warmth

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE participated in the 26^th annual Walk for Warmth benefiting the Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency (OLHSA), hosted at Great Lakes Crossing Outlet on February 6, 2016.

The Walk for Warmth is OLHSA’s annual fundraising event to promote awareness and provide support for those facing heat-related emergencies in Oakland and Livingston counties through the Emergency Utility Assistance program.

Credit Union ONE was a sponsor for this year’s event, and approximately 50 credit union staff members and their families and friends participated. The credit union has participated in the event for the last nine consecutive years.

To date, the event has raised more than $54,000 for Oakland County residents. 

“We look forward to this event every year,” said John Kozich, Credit Union ONE Vice President of Community Relations, “It shines a light on a need within our community and we’re honored to help OLHSA make an impact.”

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE’s Traverse City branch was recently recognized by the Traverse City Elks Lodge #323 for proudly flying the American flag.   

The local Elks Lodge recognizes 25 local businesses annually who display the flag.  

“It is an honor for the Traverse City branch and Credit Union ONE to be recognized by the Elks Club with a certificate for our patriotism and for what some would consider a basic civic duty,” said Tamara DePonio, Traverse City branch manager, “It was certainly an unexpected and pleasant surprise and we will display the certificate proudly!” 

Branch Manager competes in SwingShift and the Stars Dance-Off for Charity

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE branch manager Tamara DePonio competed in the SwingShift and the Stars Dance-Off for Charity, which raised a record total of more than $275,000 for six charities within the Traverse Bay region. Since its inception in 2008, the “Dancing with the Stars” style competition has raised more than $1.5 million to benefit local nonprofits in the Traverse Bay and Great Lakes Bay regions.

SwingShift and the Stars, hosted by High Impact Productions, brought together local celebrities, dancers, live music, and volunteers again this fall and winter for fun and fundraising. Six couples, each representing a different charity, danced in four themed events and received critique from a panel of judges. Each event concluded with members of the audience voting for their favorite couple or charity by making a donation.

DePonio, a lifelong dancer in addition to her role as the credit union’s Traverse City branch manager, was approached by the event’s coordinators to serve as a dance coach. She and her dance partner, Peninsula Township Supervisor Pete Correia, danced on behalf of The Peter Dougherty Society. In total, they helped raise more than $81,000 for the local historic preservation and restoration group.

“SwingShift and the Stars has been such a phenomenal event! I’ve had the wonderful privilege of interacting with many business professionals in the Traverse City community who demonstrate the principals of true servant leadership,” DePonio said. “I’m proud of everyone involved; the event coordinators, the band, the local celebrities who took a chance on learning something new, the choreographers, the teachers, and the charities. I am grateful for having had the opportunity to play a small role in support of the community in which I live and I am so very grateful Credit Union ONE shares these values and has allowed me to help make a difference with this very worthwhile cause.” 

Kids Kicking Cancer named Hometown Charity Giveaway winner

Ferndale, Michigan – Kids Kicking Cancer was named the winner of Credit Union ONE’s fourth annual Hometown Charity Giveaway on December 1, 2015. The group was selected by the credit union’s Facebook fans to receive a $3,000 donation.

                                     

The Hometown Charity Giveaway recognizes local organizations that give back to the community. Each of Credit Union ONE’s twenty branches nominated a nonprofit that they felt demonstrated the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” From there, voting was open on the Credit Union ONE Facebook page from November 9 - 27.

Kids Kicking Cancer was nominated in the Hometown Charity Giveaway by the credit union’s St. Joseph Mercy Financial branch, located within St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac.

“Our branch nominated Kids Kicking Cancer because of the energy and inspiration they bring to the community,” said Holly Cudney, St. Joseph Mercy Financial branch manager, “They help empower kids and their families to find the light in every situation and truly give back in a meaningful way.”

Headquartered in Southfield, Kids Kicking Cancer uses martial arts therapy to help children fighting cancer and other serious illnesses by empowering them and providing a sense of power, peace and purpose. The group teaches martial arts, breathing techniques and meditation to help children heal physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Classes are offered free-of-charge at hospitals and health centers throughout Metro Detroit, including Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Beaumont Children’s Hospital, Karmanos Cancer Center, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, St. John Hospital and Medical Center, and the McLaren Macomb Medical Center.
