$3,000 to be given to local charity in annual Hometown Charity Giveaway

In keeping with the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” Credit Union ONE will host its third annual Hometown Charity Giveaway.  Voting will take place on Facebook from November 9 – 27, 2015 and one local charity will win a $3,000 donation.

Anyone who “likes” the Credit Union ONE Facebook page is eligible to vote.

The annual Facebook promotion recognizes local organizations and celebrates those who give back. Each of the credit union’s branches – located throughout Metro Detroit and in Grand Rapids and Traverse City – nominated an organization that supports the community they serve.

Ranging from human services and research groups to community enrichment and animal welfare organizations, the nominated charities all share a commitment to helping others.

A complete list of the nominated charities, along with more information about their work, can be found online at cuone.org/hometown.

Credit Union ONE Walks for Life to Support Organ and Tissue Donation

Ferndale, Michigan – Credit Union ONE (CUONE) was a proud sponsor of the 18th Annual Gift of Life Walk/Run benefiting the Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP). The event, which included a 5K and 10K race as well as a 5K walk, was held at Belle Isle State Park on July 25, 2015.

Credit Union ONE employees and their friends and families
participated in the 18th Annual Gift of Life Walk/Run.
For the third consecutive year, CUONE employees and their friends and families participated in the event and joined MOTTEP in celebrating those who have given the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

“The Life Walk is such an inspiration. It’s both heart-warming and humbling to hear the experiences of so many people who have been affected by an organ or tissue donation,” said John Kozich, Vice President of Community Relations for CUONE. “Our credit union is honored to support MOTTEP and their great cause.”

MOTTEP works year-round within communities to create awareness, promote education, and encourage individuals to consider becoming an organ donor.  The organization places a special emphasis on education in minority communities where there is traditionally lower donor participation.

MOTTEP’s Gift of Life Walk/Run is Michigan’s largest event promoting organ and tissue donation. This year’s event raised more than $75,000 and brought together a diverse group of attendees, incuding organ donors’ families, transplant recipients, medical professionals, politicians, corporate partners, and other community members.

“The Life Walk/Run is an experience that brings all our transplant partners to the communities that we serve everyday to fulfill our mission,” said Remonia Chapman, Program Director of Gift of Life MOTTEP, “We’re working to maximize organ and tissue donation for transplantation through innovative programs and exceptional service. Gift of Life MOTTEP mobilizes our message…one step at a time.”

NO TXT ZONE Campaign Earns Award

Ferndale, Michigan – Throughout the year, Credit Union ONE engages in various activities that support our members and the communities in which they live and work.

One such project that the credit union chose to support in 2014/2015 was the NO TXT ZONE, a campaign to help make our roads safer by educating and encouraging individuals not to text and drive.

The campaign, published by UpNorthLive.com and channels WGTQ/WGTY-TV in Traverse City was sponsored by community partners Credit Union ONE and Williams Chevrolet.

Much time and effort from the news stations and both community partners was put into the program; from high school presentations, news stories, and commercials, to sign-up events where individuals took a pledge not to text and drive.

For their success with the campaign, on March 11, 2015, the Michigan Association of Broadcasting (MAB) Broadcast Excellence Awards presented WGTQ/WGTU-TV with the highly coveted Merit Award for Community Involvement.

"Typically we are about providing credit and a safe place to save, however credit unions at their core are about people helping people," said Neetu Singh, Credit Union ONE Vice President of Marketing. “Credit Union ONE is proud to be part of such a meaningful program that is making a difference in the lives of the community.”
